RYA Keelboat Instructor Course
Overview
Take your sailing skills further and become an RYA-certified Keelboat Instructor. Our 5-day course uses our fleet of Hawk 20 keelboats, providing ample cockpit space for a hands-on teaching experience. With expert trainers, you’ll learn to instruct RYA Keelboat courses and inspire the next generation of sailors.
What You’ll Learn
This course covers essential skills for teaching both on land and at sea, including:
- Course preparation and key teaching points
- Session management and effective delivery
- Customer liaison and adaptable teaching techniques
Course Structure
- Day 1: Course intro; teaching beginners (wind handling, upwind techniques, tacking)
- Day 2: Beginner skills (4 essentials, downwind, gybing, and man-overboard drills)
- Day 3: Keelboat handling under power
- Day 4: Advanced coaching (day sailing)
- Day 5: Assessment and review with a secondary trainer’s input

Additional Information
