The RYA Seamanship Course is designed for sailors looking to develop their boat-handling abilities in a variety of conditions. Over the course of two days, you will learn essential seamanship skills such as recovering a man overboard, stopping and reducing sail, picking up a mooring, and anchoring. These skills are critical for anyone looking to improve their confidence and competence when sailing in more challenging situations.

  • Launching and recovering the boat in different conditions
  • Stopping, reducing sail, and handling various sail adjustments

  • Navigating different sailing scenarios to develop problem-solving skills

Pre-requisites and assumed knowledge

  • Required experience: Sailing skills to the standard of RYA Level 3 or Stage 4.

Ability after course
By the end of this course, you will have developed the confidence and competence to handle a dinghy in a range of situations afloat, from emergency maneuvers to more routine sailing challenges. This course is ideal for those wishing to progress their seamanship skills to a higher level.
