Whether you're supporting dinghies, windsurfers, kayaks, canoes, or racing fleets, this course will teach you the essential rescue techniques and safety boat handling skills. It covers practical scenarios that require you to act as an escort or safety boat, ensuring you have the skills to handle a range of emergency situations. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently provide safety cover for a variety of water activities.

Course Content

During this 2-day course, you will cover:

  • Rescue techniques for dinghies, windsurfers, and canoes
  • Safe boat handling and manoeuvres for escort and rescue operations
  • Mark laying and race management support
  • Towing techniques
  • Preparing for end-of-day procedures
  • Understanding safety requirements and suitability of craft
  • Communication and coordination with other water users
  • Local factors affecting safety, including tides, currents, and weather
  • Kayak/canoe rescue theory

Pre-requisites and Assumed Knowledge

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification is required
  • A First Aid Certificate is strongly recommended, but not mandatory

Ability After Course

Upon completion of this course, you will be equipped to act as a safety boat for dinghies, windsurfers, kayaks, or canoes, providing both escort services and emergency rescue. You will also be proficient in boat handling in a variety of rescue scenarios and capable of managing support for sailing races and training activities.
