Course Introduction
The RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is the ideal qualification for those looking to teach the RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 courses at an RYA Training Centre. This intensive 3.5-day course prepares you to become a qualified powerboat instructor. The course includes a half-day pre-assessment and three days of practical and theoretical training, with a focus on refining your teaching skills, understanding the RYA syllabus, and improving your practical powerboating techniques.
Course Content
- Comprehensive overview of the RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 syllabus
- Teaching techniques and lesson planning
- Practical instruction on various powerboats, including maneuvers and boat handling
- Safety, rescue, and emergency procedures
- Effective communication and presentation skills for teaching
- How to provide feedback and assess students
- Evening revision and homework (approx. 1-2 hours per evening)
- Skills assessment and feedback
Pre-requisites and Assumed Knowledge:
- Minimum age of 16
- Must hold a valid RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA Safety Boat qualification, and RYA First Aid certificate
- A minimum of 5 years of experience across a range of powerboats
- Familiarity with RYA procedures and standards
- Participants are encouraged to purchase an RYA G19 Power Scheme Instructor Handbook for £14.50 (available from our centre or the RYA)
Ability After Course:
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be qualified to instruct the RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 courses at an RYA Training Centre. They will have the necessary skills to plan and deliver powerboating lessons and conduct assessments in a safe and professional manner.
Key Points:
Age: Over 16’s
Pre-requisites and Assumed Knowledge: Valid RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA Safety Boat qualification, RYA First Aid, and at least five years of experience with various powerboats
Minimum Duration of Course: 3.5 days (half-day pre-assessment and 3 full course days)
Times: 09:00-17:00 each day, with some evening revision and homework (1-2 hours)
