Course Introduction:

The PaddleUK Paddlesport Instructor Course is designed for aspiring paddlesport instructors who want to deliver fun, engaging, and safe beginner sessions. This 16-hour course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge required to lead taster and starter sessions for paddlesports, including canoeing and kayaking, on very sheltered water. Through this course, you'll learn the foundations of teaching and guiding beginner paddlers, ensuring they have a positive and safe experience on the water.

The course will cover:

  • Kitting up a group for paddlesport activities
  • Familiarisation activities to get participants comfortable with their craft
  • Fun games and activities to support learning and skill development
  • Using mini journeys to foster adventure and exploration
  • Tailoring sessions to meet the needs of beginners in very sheltered water environments
  • Craft selection deemed suitable for first-time paddlers

You will leave the course with the ability to manage and deliver taster sessions for beginners in paddlesport at clubs, centres, and other organisations.

Pre-requisites and Assumed Knowledge

  • Ages: 14+
  • Pre-requisites: No prior paddlesport instructor experience is required; however, it is recommended that you have basic paddling skills (such as the PaddleUK Foundation Award or equivalent).
  • You must be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of paddling ability and experience.

After completing the PaddleUK Paddlesport Instructor Course, you will be qualified to:

  • Lead beginner paddlesport sessions for small groups
  • Teach basic paddling techniques and safety practices
  • Manage activities such as taster sessions and introductory paddlesport courses
  • Work in very sheltered water environments
  • Use structured games and activities to promote learning and fun
  • Provide a safe and positive experience for first-time paddlers
